URENCO Science Workshop

Yesterday afternoon, we took part in a URENCO science workshop. After hearing all about the research carried out at URENCO we then carried out several scientific experiments of our own to sort different substances. We looked at different ways to sort different substances from using a sieve to chromatography. We learned a lot of new scientific skills we will be able to use during our science topic for this half term: Changing States of Matter.

Here are some photos of us carrying out our experiments.

Conway Residential

Year 3 and 4 spent a brilliant few days at the Conway Centre recently. We all thoroughly enjoyed our trip and all the children worked well as a team to support each other when taking on new challenges. We were all really impressed with their attitude and determination during the trip as many of the activities were very challenging. There was lots of fun and laughter and many memories were made!

Here are some pictures of what we got up to!

Trip to Marks and Spencer

In Year 4 we recently enjoyed a trip to Marks and Spencer in Cheshire Oaks to learn all about the choices they made when building their unique eco-friendly store.

We were welcomed by the staff who took us on an informative tour of the store to find out about their choices. We were intrigued to find out that the living wall which surrounds Marks and Spencer is designed to attract bees, butterflies and other wildlife. It also insulates the building so they use less heating inside the store.

We also wen round the back of M and S to look at the bird houses. We had to be quiet if we wanted to catch a glimpse of the birds.

We learnt a lot on our trip and will be using it in our Choices topic work.

Topic in Year 4

This term in Year 4 we have been looking at the impact of Roman life in Britain.

We have been looking at different type of evidence and analysing what makes it reliable. We had to sort different types of evidence into primary or secondary sources and explain our answers.

Last week, we went on a fact hunt around the classroom in team to find out as much information as we could about Hadrian's wall. We worked in teams and competed against each other to collect the facts the quickest. However, we could only send one team member out at a time and we each had a different colour fact to find, remember and come back to the team to record on the paper. We then used our new knowledge to write a letter from the perspective of a Roman soldier working on Hadrian's wall.

This week, we learnt all about Boudicca, the Celtic queens, rebellion against the Romans. We had to get into role and think about this historical event from different perspectives. We were either a slave, Roman soldier, Roman governor, Celtic farmer or the Celtic queen Boudicaa.

Here are some pictures of us having a discussion in the role of our characters.

Zoo Trip

On Thursday, Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Chester Zoo. They have been learning all about living things and their habitats in Science with Miss Roberts so the zoo was the perfect place to visit to help them with their learning.

They took part in a workshop to learn more about the rain forest and how that habitat is under threat. Everyone had a brilliant day!
